Application Materials Checklist
Military Sponsor Information
Have ready:
   •    Sponsor full name
   •    Military status (active duty, retired, etc.)
   •    Proof of status (upload or email), such as:
   ◦    Military ID card copy
   ◦    Parent/sponsor ID card copy
   ◦    Fort Knox orders
   ◦    Retirement orders
Student Information
Prepare:
   •    Full legal name
   •    Date of birth
   •    Email address
   •    Phone number
   •    Residential address
   •    County of residence
College Information
Prepare:
   •    College/university name
   •    Current academic year (freshman, sophomore, etc.)
   •    Major/field of study
   •    Student ID number
Academic & Personal Achievements
List accomplishments from:
   •    This academic year
   •    Summer before this academic year also counts
Examples:
   •    Dean’s List
   •    Scholarships
   •    Certifications
   •    Leadership roles
   •    Research/projects
   •    Work promotions
   •    Personal milestones
Extracurricular Activities
Include:
   •    Clubs
   •    Sports

Extenuating Circumstances
Think about anything that affected your academics or life:
   •    Financial hardship
   •    Family responsibilities
   •    Illness
   •    Military family transitions
   •    Work obligations
   •    Housing/transportation challenges
Essay Preparation Strategy
Question 1 (100–150 words)
Focus on:
   •    Who you are
   •    Key strengths
   •    Achievements
   •    Character traits
   •    Why you deserve the scholarship
Strong structure:
   1    Brief introduction
   2    Your strengths/accomplishments
   3    Why those qualities matter
Question 2 (Max 250 words)
Best approach:
   1    Describe the challenge clearly
   2    Explain its impact
   3    Show the steps you took to overcome it
   4    End with growth/what you learned
They usually care more about resilience and maturity than perfection.
Question 3 (Max 250 words)
Focus on:
   •    Your career goals
   •    Why your degree matters
   •    Long-term impact
   •    How this scholarship supports your future
Good structure:
   1    What you’re studying
   2    Career goal
   3    How you want to help others or make an impact
   4    Future vision
Documents to Upload
Make sure these are ready as PDFs or images:
   •    Letter of recommendation
   •    Previous semester grades/transcript
   •    Current GPA
   •    Professional headshot
Recommendation Letter Tips
Your recommender should:
   •    Know you personally/professionally
   •    Speak about your character and work ethic
   •    Provide specific examples
Good choices:
   •    Professor
   •    Coach
   •    Employer
   •    Volunteer supervisor
   •    Academic advisor
Before You Start the Form
Because the form cannot be saved:
   •    Draft all essays in a separate document first
   •    Keep file names organized
   •    Double-check upload formats
   •    Have all documents in one folder
   •    Verify word counts before pasting

You ARE eligible if:
You are:
   •    The dependent child of an Active Duty or AGR U.S. military sponsor assigned/attached to Fort Knox
OR
   •    The dependent child of a deceased or retired U.S. military member living in the Fort Knox area
OR
   •    A dependent child living in the Fort Knox area whose sponsor is Active Duty/AGR
AND you:
   •    Are enrolled in an accredited college, vocational, or correspondence program
   •    Are pursuing your first undergraduate degree
   •    Are attending school during the current academic year
You are NOT eligible if:
   •    You are pursuing:
   ◦    A second bachelor’s degree
   ◦    A graduate degree (master’s, doctorate, etc.)
   •    You attend a U.S. Service Academy
   •    You have already applied:
   ◦    3 times as a continuing education applicant
   ◦    or 4 total times if one application was as a high school senior

   •    Grayson

   •    Jefferson
   •    Larue
   •    Meade
   •    Nelson
   •    Spencer
   •    Washington
Indiana:
   •    Clark

   •    Harrison
What This Means for Your Application
You should be ready to prove:
   1    Your dependency relationship to the military sponsor
   2    Your sponsor’s military status
   3    Your residence in an eligible county (if applicable)
   4    Your current enrollment
   5    That this is your first undergraduate degree
Useful supporting documents may include:
   •    Military orders or retirement paperwork
   •    Dependent ID
   •    Proof of address
   •    Transcript or enrollment verification
